Dennis' Bronco has undergone a transformation in which it looks as good as it performs. With a fresh deep red paint job, we set out to fit this classic 1967 model with the latest in Bronco suspension design. We started with a set of WCB long travel tubular radius arms. At 6" longer than stock, these arms provide great travel and articulation without sacrificing high speed handling characteristics the way longer aftermarket arms do. The massive 1¼" QA1 heim joints provide bind-free articulation and years of trouble-free service, as evidenced by their longevity in WCB-sponsored Baja race trucks.
In order to provide as much shock travel as the new suspension requires, we installed a set of WCB tubular shock hoops with cross-over brace. WCB's shock hoops differ from the competition's by incorporating urethane bushings at the frame mounts to absorb stresses and vibrations that can cause cracks and structural failure on competitors' hoops that are rigidly welded to the frame. The cross-over brace provides extra strength to the shock hoop structure, which can see some severe forces when travelling at speed in rough terrain. For the rear, we went with the WCB inboard rear shock hoop to provide great articulation without shock bind. Deaver coils and leaf springs provide great on-road and off-road performance.
Under the hood, things were livened up with a new Edelbrock 4V carburator and manifold. We installed a Hydratech hydroboost brake system for better confidence and safety while driving. Brake performance was further improved with a disk brake conversion to the '67's stock Dana 30. A WCB Rockcrawler power steering system with Saginaw pump and WCB brackets brought the steering system up to the state of the art. A new NV3550 5-speed manual transmission provides smooth shifting and an overdrive for highway crusing. Putting power to the road or trail are a new set of 35" BFG Mud Terrains on polished aluminum wheels.
As with most of our project rigs, Dennis' Bronco couldn't leave our shop without a custom WCB roll cage. Dennis chose our basic 6-point family cage, with a few custom touches. The cross-dash brace includes an "Oh-Shit" bar, and there are grab handles at the front entry and rear seat areas. Behind the front seats is a removable cross-brace that Dennis can use to mount safety harnesses, tie down loads, or remove it for easier access to the rear seat. The cage as well as the tubular radius arms and shock hoops were all powder coated in tough Silver Vein wrinkle finish.
